Misses 6-16.
The glamour emanating from Hollywood in the 1930s and 1940s held the American public in thrall. Movie studios published still photographs of their stars in elegant attired, and fans clamored for the chance to copy the dress, coiffured, and make-up of their favorites. Folkwear's Glamour Girl Dress is a stunning example of early 1940s styling, designed to emphasize feminine curves, drape elegantly, and give the wearer an aura of discrete sexiness.
A close fitting bodice is highlighted by a narrow "V" neckline. Front bodice and skirt gather into a curved midriff that ties at center front, providing snug individual fit. A fitting back hip yoke ensured a smooth line. The flared skirt draped gracefully at center front and back bias seams. The three-quarter length sleeves are distinctively gathered at the elbow. dress zips at the left side seam. Shoulder pads are essential for the proper early 1940s silhouette.
Three lengths are offered, the ankle length of out original evening gown, a 1940s daytime knee length, and a strictly contemporary mid-calf length.
Note the reasonable yardage requirements, which reflect the need to conserve fabric during the second World War.
Suggested fabrics:Â Light to medium-weight fabrics with drape, such as silk or rayon crepe, satin, challis, soft cotton.
